UK weather maps show -4C deep freeze this weekend as Met Office warns of snow

Daytime temperatures could dip below freezing in several parts of the country this weekend, as weather forecasters say snow is on the way.

The Met Office has said "colder air" will likely have reached all parts of the country by this weekend, with "wintry showers and strong winds" on the cards for people living in "northern and eastern areas". "It is uncertain how prolonged this cold spell will be," the national weather agency's forecast added.

Advanced weather modelling maps from WX Charts now show temperatures could go as low as -4C as this cold snap takes hold across Saturday (November 25) and Sunday (November 26). Minimum temperature readings show most of England and Wales might see 0C at midday on Saturday.

Further north and across the mountains in Scotland, -1C is on the cards. Only in some coastal regions are temperatures above 0C guaranteed.

Midday on Sunday is when we might see -4C in some parts of northern Scotland. WX Charts' data shows -1C is possible elsewhere in Scotland, and -2C on higher ground in the north of England.

Minimum possible temperature readings sit at 0C for much of the rest of the country. The east coast is about the only place where these readings are above 0C.

Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden has said we could soon see snow falling across the entire length of the country. He wrote on Monday (November 20): "From later this week will see that first spread of cold Arctic air making things much more seasonal and colder across our shores from the north of the country, and throughout Thursday and into Friday will see the first of some moderate to heavy snow falling across parts of the far north and Scotland, and some of these may also filter into parts of northern England within this period too.

"Beyond this and into the weekend becomes a little more debatable as to where and when snow will fall, but our current indications show this colder weather digging in and bringing wintry/snow showers to some other parts of the country away from the north/Scotland, and potentially in parts as far south as southern England within this period too."
