Hello Parents,

This page in intended to explain the instructions for verifying your parental consent for a child’s account at Club Cahootie which is required in order to offer your child full access to the features of the site and to comply with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).  

COPPA requires parental consent as relates to the online collection of personal information from children under 13 years of age. At Club Cahootie, we do not require nor do we request personal information from kids in order to use or enjoy our site. However, many of the features (e.g., chat, blog, mail, digital uploads) on Club Cahootie were designed to allow kids to enter free form text and/or upload personal content as they customize their experience. Club Cahootie does not share any content that users upload to our site with third parties. Additionally, because of our RealWorld™ Friends System (read more about on our Parents page), the personal information your child may upload at Club Cahootie in the form of free form text or digital media resides in a closed social network of real world friends with whom they have exchanged printed and proprietary friendship invitation codes and of whom you as parents have been notified as friends of your child's at Club Cahootie.

In order to successfully verify your parental consent for your child's registration at Club Cahootie, we require three steps:

1.       Your review and acceptance of Club Cahootie's Privacy Policy on behalf of your child.

2.       Your review and acceptance of Club Cahootie's Terms & Conditions on behalf of your child.

3.       A credit card transaction of ninety nine cents ($0.99). This one-time nominal transaction will appear on your credit card billing statement thereby ensuring transparency with parents that their child has received parental consent to be registered at Club Cahootie. This is intended to prevent any unauthorized uses of a parent's credit card for the purposes of creating false parental consent. At no other time during the Club Cahootie experience do we require a credit card for your child's use of Club Cahootie nor is there any sort of ongoing subscription payment required.

To proceed with the verification of a child’s account, you as the parent need to register at Club Cahootie using the same email address that your child provided when registering (assuming your child registered before you).  As such, you should have received an email from Club Cahootie titled “Child Registration Notice for Club Cahootie” which contains a link for you to click on that will begin your registration process.  (If you did not receive an email from Club Cahootie, check your spam filter as it might have been held there by your email provider).  You must complete the registration process and create your own account with your own username and password.  This will not only allow you to verify consent for your child’s account, but also give you access to parental controls over your child’s account.

Once you as the parent are logged into the Club Cahootie site, you will see your child’s account listed under “My children” on the left hand side of the page.  Click on the child’s account and click on the “validate here” link.  You will then be asked to review and accept our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.  You will also be asked to provide your credit card information for a one-time transaction of $0.99 for reasons described above in step #3.

If you as a parent register before your child for Club Cahootie, then your child needs to register separately and provide the same parental email address that you as a parent used to register for the site.  Once the child registers, then their account will automatically be linked to your account and will appear under the “My children” tab upon their registration.  From there you as the parent can complete the registration process steps 1-3 as described above.

If you have more than one child who would like to join Club Cahootie, you only need to complete the credit card transaction step (step #3) once for the first child in order to verify your parental consent.  This will serve to authenticate your account as that of a parent.  In order to complete the verification process for additional children, you only need to check of acceptance of our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions for each additional child by clicking on that child’s account under “My children”.  You will not be required to complete credit card transactions for additional accounts of children in your family on Club Cahootie so long as they are each identified as your children by providing the same parental email address.
